Just Our Thoughts...

Just the other day, I was having a discussion with some of my friends on AIM. We were talking about the street wear game as we know. You know its changed over the last couple of years. Its become a cliche since its being placed in the spotlight. Well here is a few thoughts from some of my friends...

Malcolm aka Roc states... "Street fashion is supposed to be an expression as it has always been. People dressed how they felt. What ever your vice was at the time was the atitude you carried with what ever you wore. Now people TRY, it has become a battle. People abuse the beauty of it by getting fake things. Mixing things that should not be mixed. They just mix it because it is what they see on t.v. If it isn't you then do not do it. Certain people wear things and don't look comfortable at all in it. They wear that "I hope I look fly face", while always checking their gear. BE YOURSELF."

Valentine states... "I think street fashion is popping for the simple fact that it gives society's rebels a dresscode. It gives street kids who can't afford to pay $300 for a Gucci shirt a way to get dressed also. Street fashion expresses the atitude of the young consumers who don't necessarily like mainstream brands who are ran by an older generation who don't understand what street fashion or street life is."

Dainene aka PayDai states... "Street fashion is your introduction to the world with out saying hello. It is your statement, it defines you. It is in our rights, freedom of expression, and street fashion is just a way of abiding by that."

Laron aka DonRon states... "For the most part street wear right now is good. I think the game right now is versitile and caters to everyones budget. My only dislikes really is the baggy(sloppy) look, but hey, if that is you that's just you... I keep coming back to street wear because it is me. That is how I have always been but I am still able to switch my style when necessary, depending on the occassion. Being versatile is a must in street wear. "

Natasha aka Ms Tash states... "Street fashion is a art of its own. Street fashion is not just a chain belt, high top kicks, skinny jeans and bright tee shirt. Street fashion is fashion that you can feel! Brands such as Stussy, Supreme, and Mishka gives you the same feeling as when you pop in your favorite CD. The love that some people have for art, music, poetry is the same way people live for fashion. Its basically some peoples way of life."

To me, street wear is a culture in its own. Yes of course we are going to have these posers, who only wear what they see in the magazines or on television. It is so simple these days to market your line. Get an artist such as Kanye West or Lupe Fiasco to wear it and everybody is going to want to jump on it. No disrespect to them artist(got nothing but love and respect for both) but it shouldn't be that way. Not to get religous on you, but we are all created by God to be individuals. Do not watch the competition. That shirt, cardigan, crewneck, varsity jacket, hoodie, skinny jeans, fitted jeans, beanie, and kickz are suppose to speak to you. If you pick them up and recieve no feeling from them then it is not for you. Do not be ashamed to express your feelings through fashion which is actually an art.

I thank those that had an healthy convo with me about street wear and on that note BE YOURSELF... don't let nobody take you away from yourself because this is "JUST OUR STYLE".
